Budget Defense on Oceans and Fisheries.

I recently joined my colleagues as a member of the House Committee on Oceans and Fisheries to review the proposed budget for this vital sector.

Oceans and fisheries are critical to our nation’s development, given the immense economic potential of aquatic resources. By maximizing these opportunities, we can attract foreign direct investment and significantly boost our GDP.

The budget defense session with sectoral heads was focused on ensuring that the appropriation and implementation processes address the urgent need to reform our aquatic policies. These reforms are essential for enhancing security and fostering economic prosperity in this sector.

During the session, I made significant contributions by emphasizing the need to revitalize all existing oceans and water bodies across the nation, including the River Niger and other key water systems. These efforts are crucial for supporting fisheries, facilitating importation activities, and promoting sustainable use of aquatic resources. I also stressed the importance of securing our oceans to ensure ease of doing business and the preservation of aquatic ecosystems.

The session was highly productive, and I am optimistic that the implementation of these budgetary provisions will enhance the economic viability of our oceans and water bodies.
