A petition titled “Silence is No Longer Golden: The Need to Take Exception to Denigrating Statements and Unfounded Allegations Against the Nigerian Judiciary” signed by Frank Tietie, Esq., Lead Advocate and Executive Director of Citizens Advocacy for Social & Economic Rights (CASER), which was made available to Newscount, has called on the Hon. Justice John Tsoho, OFR, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, to take action against the increasing attacks on the Nigerian judiciary.
In the petition, CASER expresses concern over the attacks, which they believe are aimed at undermining the country’s stability by tarnishing the judiciary’s image.
The petition highlights a recent incident where Jackson Ude of Point Blank News made unfounded accusations against the Chief Judge and other judges of the Federal High Court. CASER believes that unscrupulous litigants are hiring social media influencers to attack the judiciary’s reputation without evidence, especially when court decisions don’t favor them.
CASER is therefore urging the judiciary to take action against these attacks, which they believe could erode public trust and lead to possible anarchy. They are calling for those responsible to be investigated and prosecuted, and for efforts to be made to restore the judiciary’s public image.
The petition emphasizes the crucial role the judiciary plays in maintaining law and order and by extension preserving Nigeria’s future, and urges all men and women of goodwill to resist attempts to undermine it.
