NUJ FCT Chair, Grace Ike, has made history by becoming the first female chairperson in the NUJ FCT Council’s 41-year history, and now she’s added another feather to her cap by winning the African Leadership Excellence Award at the African Legendary Award (AFRILA 2025). Ike’s outstanding leadership, humanitarian efforts, and strong influence as a broadcast journalist earned her this prestigious recognition The award was presented at the third edition of the African Legendary Award in Abuja, where Ike was represented by Ebriku John Friday, editor of the NUJ FCT online news platform. Friday highlighted Ike’s exceptional leadership qualities, including her focus on the well-being of journalists, inclusivity, and transformation. Ike expressed her gratitude to the organizers and dedicated the award to God and the members of the NUJ FCT Council, who have identified with her throughout her journey. She also used the occasion to urge journalists to uphold ethical standards, strive for fair and balanced reporting, and continue to make a positive impact.
With over 17 years of experience as a broadcast journalist, Ike is an inspiration to many, and this award is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She currently works with the Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN) in Abuja.
