Former Anambra State Governor and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, paid a heartfelt tribute to the late revered elder statesman, Chief (Dr.) Edwin Clark, at a commendation service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja yesterday. The service was attended by several eminent Nigerians, including former governors and dignitaries, as well as PANDEF Chairman, Amb Godknows Igali.
After the service, Obi accompanied Clark’s remains to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where the body was received by former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri, and other leaders of the Ijaw National Congress and PANDEF.
In a poignant post on his X handle, Obi described Clark as a moral force, a man of truth and courage, deeply committed to justice, unity, and equity. He noted that Clark lived and spoke for Nigeria, standing for what was right regardless of tribe or religion.
Obi emphasized that the best way to honour Clark’s memory is not just with tributes but with action. He called on Nigerians to build a country where truth is spoken, justice is upheld, and leadership is anchored in service and sacrifice.
“As we say goodbye to this great patriot, let us build a Nigeria where truth is spoken, justice is upheld, and leadership is anchored in service and sacrifice,” Obi stated, as he prayed for Clark’s soul to rest in peace and for his life to continue inspiring others to do what is right for Nigeria.
