The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commissioned an e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State, to revolutionize healthcare services in Nigeria. This initiative aims to integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the healthcare delivery system, improving access to healthcare, raising the quality, and cutting down costs.
The e-Health project is formulated to harness ICTs to significantly improve the delivery of healthcare services in public primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the country. The project is expected to result into general improvements in the speed, quality, and quantum of healthcare services delivery in public health institutions across Nigeria.
NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, stressed that the project is a major milestone in the commission’s efforts to revolutionize healthcare access through digital innovation. He praised the successful collaboration between the commission, technology experts, and the government, which made the project a reality.
The project is part of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) initiative, which aims to promote digital transformation in various sectors, including healthcare. With this project, the NCC is set to improve healthcare outcomes and contribute to the country’s economic productivity.
