House of Representatives Congratulates President Bola Tinubu on His Second Anniversary in Office
Abuja, FCT | Thursday, May 29, 2025 – The House of Representatives congratulates His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the second anniversary of his administration, marking two years of steadfast leadership and national renewal.
This milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on the significant progress achieved in repositioning the economy, confronting insecurity, and implementing bold, people-oriented reforms. The House notes with satisfaction the early signs of macroeconomic stability, enhanced investor confidence, and improved fiscal performance; outcomes that reflect a deliberate effort to retool national governance and restore public trust.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, in his message remarked:
“President Tinubu has demonstrated good leadership and courage from the first day he assumed office, when he vowed to lift our economy by six per cent annually, rationalise the foreign exchange market, generate jobs, and confront insecurity.
These commitments have formed the cornerstone of our national policy thrust, yielding numerous bold interventions that have reshaped Nigeria’s fiscal foundations and positioned the country for sustainable progress.”
Speaker Abbas further noted: “Today, the World Bank confirms that real GDP growth for 2024 reached its highest level since 2015, driven by a resilient non-oil sector and fortified public revenues. The appropriation of ₦54.99 trillion for 2025 reflects the National Assembly’s conviction in these revenue projections and underscores this administration’s commitment to health, education, and infrastructure.”
He expressed satisfaction that inflation once surging past 40 percent has been steered down to 23.7 percent, following a meticulous rebasing of the statistical framework. This signals that initial price shocks are abating and that the economy is regaining stability.
“Meanwhile, foreign exchange reserves have climbed beyond US\$40 billion, anchored by record oil output exceeding 2.3 million barrels per day and steady capital inflows. This financial buffer underpins our economy’s resilience against global shocks and reinforces the stability of the Naira.”
Speaker Abbas therefore urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Tinubu-led administration as the President implements bold reforms for both immediate and long-term national benefit.
The House takes particular pride in the administration’s tax reform agenda, which is central to Nigeria’s long-term fiscal sustainability. In March 2025, the House passed a comprehensive suite of tax bills, which have now been concurred by the Senate and are pending presidential assent. These reforms aim to raise Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio from 10 percent to over 13.5 percent by establishing a fairer, more efficient, and growth-oriented tax system.
The House commends the Student Loan Scheme and the ₦45,000 monthly stipend for technical college students as clear investments in inclusive education and youth empowerment. These initiatives reflect broader national priorities on economic opportunity. The Nigeria First Policy continues to support local content and domestic industry, while the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative advances energy transition, reduces transport costs, and drives job creation.
The bold approach to insecurity has yielded measurable gains in territorial control and operational effectiveness, reinforcing national stability. Additionally, a ₦6 trillion boost in subnational revenues in 2024 has enabled states to reduce debt, meet salary and pension obligations, and increase investment in infrastructure and human capital.
While preserving its constitutional independence and upholding the principle of separation of powers, the House reiterates its unwavering commitment to supporting the administration’s reform efforts through the lens of its Legislative Agenda (2023–2027), which prioritises economic revitalisation, social sector development, national security, and open governance.
As the Tinubu administration enters its third year, The People’s House remains resolute in its mission to enact impactful legislation, strengthen democratic institutions, and ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to every Nigerian.
