The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has alerted Nigerians travelling to the United States to use their visas responsibly and comply with US immigration protocols. According to a press release signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, the NCS noted that security vetting for visa applicants does not end upon entry into the US.
The NCS warned that US authorities will continuously monitor the activities of visa holders, and visas can be revoked if holders are found to have violated US immigration protocols, import/export guidelines, and other laws. The service also reminded Nigerians travelling to the US to declare excess cash above $10,000 or its equivalent and ensure that prohibited items are not included in their baggage.
The NCS emphasized the importance of being law-abiding citizens and urged intending passengers to the US to know that committing fraud in any jurisdiction will face legal consequences under both US and Nigerian laws. The service reaffirmed its collaboration with the US Mission in Abuja to ensure that Nigeria meets the criteria to avoid an expanded visa ban that would deny entry to well-meaning Nigerians wishing to travel to the US for lawful business endeavours.
