President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for one year. The extension, which takes effect from August 31, 2025, aims to enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of the administration.
According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), the extension will allow Mr. Adeniyi to further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
The ongoing initiatives that Mr. Adeniyi will continue to oversee include the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
President Tinubu’s decision to extend Mr. Adeniyi’s tenure is seen as a vote of confidence in the Comptroller-General’s leadership and commitment to service. With this extension, the Nigeria Customs Service is expected to make further progress in its efforts to facilitate trade, generate revenue, and secure the country’s borders.
