“Edo Civil Servant Convicted for Double Salary Fraud”

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of Mr. Ewere Morgan Eseosa, a civil servant, for receiving double salaries from two government entities: the University of Benin and Ikpoba Okha Local Government Council.

According to ICPC, Mr. Eseosa fraudulently accumulated ₦1,328,255.47 in unearned payments. He was charged with two counts of obtaining by false pretense and cheating but entered into a plea bargain agreement, pleading guilty to one count.

The Edo State High Court sentenced Mr. Eseosa to one-year imprisonment or a fine of ₦150,000 and ordered him to refund the fraudulently received amount. This conviction spotlights ICPC’s commitment to promoting integrity in public service and ensuring accountability among public officials.
