Peter Obi, a prominent political figure and former Presidential candidate under the Labour party, has expressed deep concern over the recent Ibom Air incident involving passenger Comfort Emmanson, who was banned from flying for life. In a passionate plea for justice and equality, Obi questioned the fairness of the punishment, highlighting the apparent disparity in how similar incidents are handled in Nigeria.
According to Peter Obi, the system seems to favor the powerful and influential, while the weak and less privileged face the full weight of the law. He emphasized the need for justice to be consistent and equal for all, with room for compassion, rehabilitation, and understanding.
Peter Obi’s statement reads, “The Poor Must Not Be Punished While the Powerful Walk Free… Justice must be consistent, or it becomes oppression in disguise. This must change. Justice must be equal for all. There must be room for compassion, for rehabilitation, and for understanding when misconduct stems from frustration or displaced aggression. Power must never determine who is punished and who is pardoned.”
Obi is highlighting the need for reform in Nigeria’s justice system to ensure fairness and equality for all, regardless of social status or influence.
