The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called for a comprehensive rights-based approach to youth empowerment in Nigeria, tackling issues such as unemployment, poor access to quality education, and limited economic opportunities. According to Dr. Tony Ojukwu, OFR, SAN, Executive Secretary of the NHRC, the Commission emphasized the need to strengthen protection efforts for young people, boost their access to economic opportunities, and ensure their active participation in governance.

Dr. Ojukwu noted that despite the huge potential and energy of Nigerian youth, their path remains fraught with significant challenges. He expressed concern about the prevalent economic uncertainty faced by young people, citing rising costs of living, unemployment, poverty, and insecurity as major concerns.

According to a press statement signed by Fatimah Agwai Mohammed, Director of Corporate Affairs and External Linkages, the NHRC urged the government and stakeholders to support young Nigerians in realizing their aspirations, contributing to peace-building, and national development. The statement highlighted the importance of empowering youth voices, ensuring their full participation in decision-making processes, and protecting their rights.
