The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command, has recorded a remarkable revenue collection of ₦89.2 billion between January and June 2025, surpassing previous half-year records. This achievement represents a 63% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
According to Comptroller Joy Edelduok, Customs Area Controller (CAC), the success is attributed to strategic reforms and enforcement measures implemented by the command. During a press briefing on August 15, 2025, Edelduok highlighted the command’s commitment to increasing revenue, supporting legitimate trade, and combating smuggling.
In line with its anti-smuggling efforts, the command seized two 40-foot containers containing expired pharmaceuticals valued at ₦130 million. These items were deemed non-compliant with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other import laws.
The CAC emphasized the command’s dedication to protecting public health and upholding transparency, accountability, and professionalism. She commended the officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command for their diligence and commitment to duty.
The seized pharmaceuticals were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action. The NDLEA representative, Commander Ashiru Abdullahi, praised the collaboration between the NCS and NDLEA.
The CAC expressed gratitude to stakeholders and partner agencies for their support, describing their contributions as crucial to the command’s success. With this achievement, the KLT Customs Area Command demonstrates its commitment to delivering its mandate and advancing the national economy.
