Prologue: A Rare Life of Grace and Service
The Scriptures remind us: “The memory of the righteous is a blessing” (Proverbs 10:7). Today, the memory of Chief Engr. Sir Dr. Innocent Akuvue (Ochudo, Nibo) shines as a blessing not only to his family but to Nibo, Anambra State, and Nigeria. A man of faith, science, and service, he lived a life that harmonized professional excellence, Christian devotion, and community leadership. He was a Chemical Engineer of global standing, Founder of GGI International, Ozo Nibo, Knight of the Church, First President of the Nibo Council of Chiefs, and President-General of Nibo Union Worldwide for eight years. In him, we saw what it means to be a complete leader—a man who built institutions, preserved tradition, and lived out faith.
Early Life and Education
Born into Umuonyima village, Uruana Nibo, Innocent Akuvue grew up with discipline and vision. His brilliance led him to the Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH), where he studied Chemical Engineering. Education was his ladder, but service was his calling. He later became both a Council Member of the University and National President of the ASUTECH Alumni Association, ensuring that the institution he loved would continue to thrive. He believed, as St. Paul wrote in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” This conviction defined both his engineering practice and his leadership.
Professional Career: GGI and Global Impact
Founder and CEO of GGI International, a company recognized in the global oil services industry for innovation, excellence, and professionalism. Under his leadership, GGI opened doors for young Nigerian engineers, especially those from the South-East, to excel on the global stage. His career proved that with faith, discipline, and courage, a man from Nibo could build a world-class company respected across continents. He exemplified the verse: “Do you see a man diligent in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men” (Proverbs 22:29).
Community Service: Many Crowns of Leadership
Chief Akuvue never separated professional success from community service. He wore many crowns of leadership, each marked by integrity and results:
- Chairman, Umuonyima Village, Uruana, Nibo – anchoring leadership at the grassroots.
- Chairman, Nibo Union Port Harcourt Branch – organizing Nibo sons and daughters in the oil capital.
- Chairman, Nibo USA Hospital Project – advancing healthcare development at home.
- Chairman, GMB Microfinance Bank, Nibo – promoting financial empowerment for artisans, traders, and entrepreneurs.
Everywhere he served, he remembered Christ’s words: “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26).
President-General of Nibo Union: Eight Years of Steady Leadership
For eight remarkable years, he led as President-General of Nibo Union Worldwide.
Unity: He built bridges across villages and diaspora branches.
Development: He ensured projects in education, health, and security left lasting impact.
Diaspora Engagement: He galvanized Nibo sons and daughters abroad to support local growth.
Peaceful Leadership: He resolved conflicts with calmness and dialogue, never with division.
His leadership embodied the beatitude: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).
Traditional Leadership: Custodian of Heritage
Beyond modern governance, he safeguarded Nibo’s traditions:
First President of the Nibo Council of Chiefs – shaping and dignifying the institution of elders.
Ozo Nibo Titleholder – a member of the prestigious Ozo society, symbolizing integrity, honor, and cultural rootedness.
Through these roles, he united heritage and modernity, showing that tradition can stand proudly alongside progress.
Service to Education and Nation-Building
Council Member, ASUTECH: contributing to policy and institutional governance.
National President, Alumni Association: uniting graduates into a strong body to uplift their alma mater.
Advocate for science, technology, and innovation as foundations for Nigeria’s future.
He reflected the wisdom of Daniel 12:3: “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”
Faith and Knighthood
A man of deep faith, Chief Akuvue was also a Knight of the Church. His knighthood was not for prestige but for service. It reflected his devotion to God, his honesty, and his humility. Like Joshua, he lived as though declaring daily: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
Family Life
Behind his many titles was a loving home. He was married to Chief Mrs. Iyom Engr. Betty Akuvue, his partner in life, faith, and service. Together, they raised three successful children, who today carry forward his legacy of excellence, humility, and service. He believed family was the first ministry, and he built his home on love and discipline.
His Famous Motto: “No Wahala”
To friends, colleagues, and family, he was known for his calming phrase: “No wahala.” It was more than a saying; it was a philosophy of life. He avoided quarrels, choosing peace over strife, patience over pride, and forgiveness over grudges. This simple phrase reflected his Igbo title Ochudo—the bringer of peace. Like St. Paul in Romans 12:18, he lived as though saying: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Vision: He planned for the future, not just the present.
Discipline: An engineer’s order shaped his leadership.
Humility: Despite his many titles, he remained approachable.
