The League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA) has called on political actors and parties to adopt issue-based campaigns ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State. In a statement signed by its interim President, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, and Secretary Princess Ekwi Ajide, LAJA emphasized the need for campaigns focused on the people’s needs, such as education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and job creation.
According to LAJA, “Our people deserve a campaign season rooted in ideas, vision, and policy direction rather than mudslinging, propaganda, or divisive rhetoric.” The group believes that issue-based campaigns will promote a more responsible and informed electioneering process.
LAJA also expressed concern over rising insecurity and alleged misconduct by some security personnel in Anambra. The group called on the state government to exercise caution in the recruitment, training, and deployment of security personnel, ensuring transparency, merit, and professionalism.
“We call on the Anambra State Government to ensure that those entrusted with security responsibilities are truly fit for such sensitive roles,” LAJA stated. The group also demanded justice for victims of unlawful actions by security agents, emphasizing that impunity must not be allowed to fester.
LAJA reiterated its commitment to holding power accountable, shaping narratives, and amplifying the voices of Ndi Anambra, and expressed its readiness to play its role in promoting responsible politics and effective governance in Anambra State [7].
