The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday formally swore in Engr. Ehiozuwa Johnson Ikpea and Dr. Chinedu Nwachukwu as senators representing Edo Central and Anambra North senatorial districts respectively.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place during plenary at the National Assembly, Abuja, was conducted by the Clerk of the Senate, following the declaration of results from the rerun elections held recently by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
With the oath-taking, the two lawmakers have now officially assumed their seats in the 10th Senate, filling the legislative gaps that had existed in both districts since the nullification of earlier elections.
Senator Ehiozuwa Johnson Ikpea, a seasoned engineer, businessman, and philanthropist, brings to the Red Chamber years of practical experience from the oil, gas, and construction sectors. He is widely regarded for his commitment to industrial development and youth empowerment across Edo Central and beyond.
Similarly, Senator Chinedu Nwachukwu, a medical doctor and public health advocate, is expected to leverage his background in medicine and community service to champion policies that improve healthcare delivery, social welfare, and education in Anambra North.
Both senators pledged loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and expressed readiness to work collaboratively with colleagues to advance national development and deliver dividends of democracy to their constituents.
Their swearing-in, however, did more than just fill vacant seats — it brought to an end months of non-representation in both Edo Central and Anambra North, during which their constituents had no elected voices in the upper legislative chamber.
With their inauguration, the Senate now returns to its full complement of members, signaling renewed representation and legislative vibrancy from the two senatorial districts.
