The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammed Samaila Bagudo, has been abducted by suspected bandits in Bagudo town. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday night when armed men invaded the area and seized the lawmaker after he returned from the mosque.
Police spokesman in the state, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the development, saying the assailants stormed Bagudo with sophisticated weapons and whisked the Deputy Speaker away to an unknown location. He added that a combined team of police operatives, soldiers, and local vigilantes had been mobilised to rescue him.
Commissioner of Police Bello Sani urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security agencies were doing everything possible to ensure the legislator’s safe return and to protect lives and property across the state.
Bagudo’s abduction adds to the growing list of attacks by armed groups in the North-West, where several public officials and community leaders have been targeted in recent months.
