The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the forthcoming Anambra State election, Chief Chidi Charles Onyeze, has pledged to raise the minimum wage for civil servants in the state to N200,000 per month if elected governor.
Onyeze made the promise while addressing party supporters and labour representatives in Awka, describing the current wage structure as grossly inadequate given the prevailing economic hardship. He assured that the proposed remuneration would be achievable under prudent financial management and a restructured economic framework focused on accountability and efficiency.
According to a statement signed by party officials, the Accord candidate explained that Anambra’s existing wage bill, estimated at about N1.5 billion, can comfortably sustain the reviewed salary structure without overstretching the state’s finances. He said his administration would also attract foreign investors to boost job creation and expand the state’s revenue base, revealing that four foreign firms had already expressed readiness to partner with his campaign’s economic recovery plan.
Onyeze further promised to create over 7,000 jobs within the first two years of his government through industrial partnerships and public-private ventures in agriculture, ICT, and infrastructure. He also vowed to strengthen local security formations such as Agunechemba, Udo Ga Achi, and Aka Odo, saying his government would retrain and adequately equip community security outfits to curb crime and protect investments.
He urged Anambra voters to reject vote-buying and short-term inducements, insisting that only visionary leadership and disciplined governance could deliver lasting prosperity for the state.
Chief Chidi Charles Onyeze, who emerged as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate unopposed during the party primary held on April 8, 2025, at East End Hotel, Aroma, Awka, is a businessman and philanthropist known for his youth empowerment and community development initiatives. He has funded educational projects, supported widows, and sponsored local enterprise programmes aimed at reducing unemployment and rural poverty across Anambra State.
