The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) on Thursday hosted a delegation from Art X Lagos in what became a lively celebration of creativity and cultural partnership. The visiting team, comprising local and international artists led by Jumoke Sanwo, Head of Art X Documentation, and tour guide Pele Awofeso, was received by the Director-General of CBAAC, Hon. Aisha Adamu Augie, alongside senior management staff.
According to a statement from CBAAC, the visitors were given a brief orientation on the institution’s mission and the legacy of FESTAC ’77 before embarking on a guided tour of the centre’s galleries, led by Deputy Director of Research and Publications, Adedosunmu Adesegun. The group was visibly impressed by the scope of CBAAC’s collection, describing it as a “treasure house that tells the story of the Black and African peoples.”
Sanwo said the experience reaffirmed Art X Lagos’ mission to spotlight and nurture African creativity, noting that the visit provided deeper context to the artistic heritage that continues to inspire new generations across the continent.
In response, Hon. Augie expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated CBAAC’s readiness to collaborate with Art X Lagos on projects that promote the continent’s creative identity. She said the partnership aligns with CBAAC’s mandate to nurture young creatives and amplify African narratives globally, adding that both institutions would explore joint exhibitions, residencies, and research initiatives.
The exchange marks a growing synergy between Nigeria’s foremost cultural institutions and Africa’s leading art platforms, highlighting a shared commitment to preserving heritage and fostering artistic innovation.
