Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has confirmed the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, following a dawn attack by armed bandits. The attackers reportedly invaded the school in the early hours of Tuesday, overpowering local security before escaping with the students.

Governor Idris, who visited the community shortly after the incident, assured families that government and security agencies were already coordinating an intensive search-and-rescue operation. He said every necessary step would be taken to ensure the safe return of the schoolgirls and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He condemned the attack as a direct assault on the state’s pursuit of education and stability, adding that security forces had been deployed to comb neighbouring forests and secure vulnerable communities across the area.

The abduction has heightened concern over recurring bandit attacks in parts of the North West, where schools and rural settlements remain targets for criminal gangs seeking ransom and territorial influence.
