Charity is often described as love made visible, and in Umudioka, that description finds expression in a home that has steadily become a place of hope, compassion, and community service. At the Ugwueze Umudioka Ozoma Mansion, NEWSCOUNT on Thursday presented its 2025 Humanitarian Leadership Award to High Chief Jim Martins Nwabueze, Ichie Akubudike and Agubuzo, in recognition of his exceptional humanitarian leadership and sustained commitment to community uplift through the Ichie Akubudike Foundation.
The presentation took place within the familiar surroundings of Nwabueze’s residence, a space that has over the years evolved into a meeting point for community dialogue, quiet interventions, courtesy visits, and empowerment initiatives that extend beyond Umudioka. The award was presented by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NEWSCOUNT and Vice President of Advocacy for Change Initiative, Mr Chukwudi George Ozalla, who was accompanied by Mr Okechukwu Okafor and other members of the NEWSCOUNT team.
The atmosphere reflected the character of the honouree. Ozalla noted that NEWSCOUNT considers it part of its responsibility as a media organisation to identify, document, and celebrate individuals whose actions strengthen society at the grassroots. He explained that Nwabueze’s interventions through the Ichie Akubudike Foundation have created opportunities for vulnerable individuals, restored dignity to struggling families, and promoted a culture of giving rooted in empathy and responsibility.
He further praised Nwabueze’s consistency, observing that humanitarian leadership is defined not by isolated gestures but by sustained commitment. According to him, what stands out most is the ease and cheerfulness with which Nwabueze gives, a quality that has become closely associated with his name within the community. He added that if such impact is being made at a personal level through the foundation, a broader platform would only amplify his ability to transform lives and improve his environment.
Beyond the foundation’s activities, Ozalla highlighted the personal example set by High Chief Nwabueze and his wife, Lolo Uchenna Nwabueze Iyom Ochudo, describing them as partners in compassion whose shared values are reflected in their home. In the same vein, one of his sons, Chief Nama Collins Nwabueze Ochinawata, applauded NEWSCOUNT for what he described as a thoughtful and purposeful concept.
