President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has paid glowing tribute to former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim, on the occasion of his 65th birthday, commending his remarkable legacy of leadership, patriotism, and service to Nigeria.
In a goodwill message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio described Anyim as a statesman of rare distinction whose contributions to legislative development and national governance have left an enduring imprint on the country’s democratic journey.
He acknowledged Anyim’s pivotal role as President of the Senate during the formative years of the Fourth Republic, noting that his leadership helped stabilize and strengthen the legislature at a critical period in Nigeria’s democratic transition. Akpabio stated that Anyim’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and national service continues to inspire both present and emerging leaders across the political landscape.
The Senate President further recalled Anyim’s tenure as Secretary to the Government of the Federation from 2011 to 2015, observing that his administrative competence, experience, and sense of duty contributed significantly to the coordination and implementation of government policies during his time in office. He said Anyim’s service at the highest levels of governance reflected his deep understanding of statecraft and unwavering dedication to the nation.
Akpabio, speaking on behalf of his family, constituents, the 10th Senate, and the entire National Assembly, extended heartfelt congratulations to the elder statesman, describing him as a respected national figure whose years of service have helped shape Nigeria’s democratic institutions and governance framework.
He expressed warm wishes for continued good health, peace, and fulfillment, noting that Anyim’s life and career stand as a testament to purposeful leadership and selfless service.
Anyim served as President of the Senate between 2000 and 2003, during which he played a central role in strengthening legislative independence and institutional stability in Nigeria’s nascent democracy. He later served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation between 2011 and 2015, where he coordinated federal executive functions and contributed to national policy implementation.
