The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated N3.48 billion in revenue for February 2026, reflecting a significant increase compared to the N743.7 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement held in Badagry. He said the revenue growth was driven by improved trade facilitation measures, stronger inter-agency collaboration and increased agricultural export activities along the Seme–Krake corridor between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
Adenuga noted that the Command had intensified efforts to streamline border operations while ensuring compliance with extant customs regulations. He said coordinated operations with relevant security agencies had reduced illegal checkpoints along the Seme–Gbaji axis, leaving only officially approved control points to enhance trade efficiency and curb extortion.
On enforcement, the Controller revealed that operatives of the Command intercepted a vehicle conveying 22 parcels of cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding N1 billion. He also disclosed the seizure of about 1,000 bags of smuggled parboiled rice within the month under review.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to promoting legitimate trade, suppressing smuggling and strengthening border security in line with the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Seme Area Command oversees Nigeria’s busiest land border corridor linking the country to the West African sub-region and plays a strategic role in trade facilitation and revenue generation.
