A former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu (rtd), has formally declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa State governorship, setting in motion a mobilisation drive ahead of the party’s primary election.
Adamu said his campaign structure had begun reaching out to supporters across the state in preparation for the direct primaries, expressing confidence in the strength of his grassroots base. He noted that further engagement and sensitisation efforts would continue in the lead-up to the exercise to ensure strong participation on the day of the primary.
Speaking on his policy direction, the former police chief identified security as the immediate priority of his administration if elected, stressing the need to guarantee both physical and human safety across the state. He said establishing a stable security framework would create the foundation required to drive development and implement programmes targeted at women, youths and the broader economy.
Adamu maintained that once security is firmly in place, other developmental initiatives would follow with greater ease, adding that his agenda includes economic growth and inclusive policies designed to uplift vulnerable groups.
On the political landscape, he downplayed concerns over the reported endorsement of another aspirant by the incumbent governor, describing it as a personal decision. He said every stakeholder is entitled to a preference, while urging the people of Nasarawa State to support his candidacy based on their conviction.
Adamu served as Inspector-General of Police from 2019 to 2021 and has remained active in national security and public affairs, positioning his experience as central to his bid for the Nasarawa governorship.
