The League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA) has congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of Workers’ Day 2026, calling for resilience as many continue to navigate economic and social pressures across the country.
In a press statement signed by its President, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, alongside Secretary Princess-Ekwi Ajide, the League said the celebration comes at a period when workers have remained committed to their duties despite difficult realities.
The statement drew attention to the role of media professionals in holding institutions to account, giving voice to citizens and sustaining democratic values, noting that many practitioners carry out these responsibilities under demanding conditions. It urged journalists to stay focused on ethical standards and professionalism.
LAJA also acknowledged the contribution of workers across different sectors, stating that their efforts continue to support national growth. It encouraged them to remain hopeful and consistent in their work while looking ahead to better conditions.
The League called on governments, employers and other stakeholders to place greater priority on workers’ welfare through fair pay, improved working conditions and practical policies that address everyday challenges faced by Nigerians.
It added that the collective efforts of workers remain central to the country’s progress and expressed hope that their labour will bring tangible improvement in their lives and the wider society.
