As Nigerians marked the 2026 Democracy Day, the Anambra Central Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, has urged leaders at all levels to ensure that democratic governance delivers measurable security, justice, and prosperity to the people.
In a personally signed statement, Nwankwo also felicitated with Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, and the people of Anambra State, commending ongoing efforts toward democratic consolidation and development in the state. He stated that leadership must remain focused on outcomes that directly improve the welfare of citizens beyond political promises.
He said, “Democracy must not be reduced to elections alone. It must reflect in the security of lives and property, in justice for all citizens, and in the creation of opportunities that guarantee dignity and prosperity for the people.”
Nwankwo added that the significance of June 12 remains a constant reminder of the sacrifices made in the struggle for electoral freedom and accountable governance in Nigeria. He stressed that the country must continue to strengthen its democratic institutions to prevent setbacks in its political journey.
The senatorial candidate commended the National Assembly for the passage of the bill seeking the establishment of state police, describing it as a timely legislative intervention to address the country’s evolving security challenges. He urged the Senate to expedite concurrence, noting that decentralised policing would improve response to insecurity at the grassroots.
He further stated that Nigeria’s democratic progress must be measured by fairness, equity, and effective service delivery, adding that citizens deserve a system that guarantees safety and equal opportunity.
