For too long, we have treated governance as a performance, retreating to the sidelines once the election curtains close. But a healthy democracy is not a four-year ritual; it is a continuous exercise in collective responsibility. When we disengage, we create a dangerous vacuum quickly filled by corruption and leaders who mistake our silence for consent.
We see the painful cost of this apathy right here in Anambra Central, where constituents don’t ask for town hall meetings or track constituency projects. Can you outsource your voice? Voting is a sacred foundation, but it merely gets us to the starting line—the real race is the daily, relentless demand for public accountability.
Umunnem, apathy is exactly what failed politicians count on to sleep soundly at night. True citizenship requires no wealth or elite connections —it requires only the attention to watch what is done in your name and the courage to speak up. It is time to leave the bleachers and get onto the pitch. We must ask our local council chairmen where budgets went, demand constituency project lists, and track every campaign promise.
I am not seeking a mandate to represent you from a distance, without hearing your voices or deeply knowing your everyday challenges. I am seeking a partnership where your real-world problems dictate my legislative priorities.
