Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the 2026 Humanitarian and Service Award by the Laity Council of All Saints Catholic Church in recognition of her contributions to journalism, public service and humanitarian causes.
The honour was conferred on the veteran journalist during a ceremony at All Saints Catholic Church, where members of the congregation and guests applauded her commitment to service and professional excellence.
Receiving the award in spirit, Comrade Ike expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and dedicated the honour to God and members of the NUJ FCT Council.
She thanked the organisers for recognising her work and for what she described as “fishing her out” despite her absence from the event, stressing that she does not take the recognition lightly.
According to her, the award is a reminder of the responsibility that comes with leadership and service.
“It’s not just an award, it’s an invitation to do more,” Ike stated.
She further stated that the recognition would strengthen her resolve to continue serving humanity and advancing the cause of journalism with humility and dedication.
“I pledge to continue serving humanity and advancing the cause of journalism with humility and dedication, through the help of God,” she added.
Ike stressed that the honour would serve as further motivation to remain committed to initiatives that promote societal development and strengthen the journalism profession.
The award adds to a growing list of recognitions received by the NUJ FCT chairman for her professional accomplishments and humanitarian engagements.
The physical award was received on her behalf by the Auditor of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Rosemary Ukoko-Tega.
