Akpabio Mourns Uduaghan, Describes Death as Great Loss

By NEWSCOUNT Desk

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, as a great loss to Nigeria and the Niger Delta region.

Akpabio said he received the news of Uduaghan’s death with profound shock, noting that the former governor died at the age of 71, just three days before his 72nd birthday.

In a condolence statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President paid tribute to Uduaghan’s contributions to governance, healthcare delivery, infrastructure development and human capital development during his years in public service.

Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, a period that coincided with Akpabio’s tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Akpabio recalled their years in office and described the late governor as a distinguished medical doctor and committed statesman who devoted his life to public service.

He noted that Uduaghan’s administration marked a significant period in Delta State’s infrastructural development, while his commitment to healthcare and human capital development reflected his concern for the welfare of the people.

The Senate President also described the deceased as a bridge-builder whose influence extended beyond Delta State to the wider Niger Delta and Nigeria.

According to him, Uduaghan was a detribalised leader and respected elder whose contributions to democracy and national development would be sorely missed.

On behalf of the 10th Senate, Akpabio extended condolences to the Uduaghan family, particularly his wife, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, their children, the Delta State Government and people, the Itsekiri nation and the entire Niger Delta region.

He prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family and the people of Delta State the strength to bear the loss.
