The Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Abuja glittered with colour, elegance and a steady flow of distinguished guests on Friday, May 8, 2026, as the 6th edition of the Accolade Yellow Ball and Awards brought together notable figures from government, media, business and the diplomatic community in a night devoted to recognition and celebration of achievement.
The hall carried a refined atmosphere from the opening moments, with guests arriving in style and the red carpet scene reflecting the growing stature of the Accolade brand within Abuja’s social and professional circuit. Conversations across the venue revolved around excellence, service and the increasing relevance of platforms that spotlight impactful individuals across sectors.
At the centre of the celebration was Honourable Ambassador Dr. Ginika Florence Tor, whose role as the driving force behind the initiative drew consistent praise throughout the evening. Many guests described the Accolade platform as a reflection of her commitment to recognising individuals whose work continues to shape public life, enterprise and community development.
The event was hosted by Accolade Dynamics Limited under the leadership of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Doofan Chizaram Tor, who reiterated the vision behind the platform as one built on recognition, encouragement and the celebration of effort across different spheres of national life.
Among those present at the ceremony were veteran international broadcaster Alistair Soyode, media scholar and former Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Ozonkpu Uche Nworah, former Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, former First Lady of Taraba State, Hauwa Suntai, and the Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Jennifer Adighije.
The award presentations formed the high point of the night, drawing applause from guests as recipients were called to the stage to receive honours in recognition of their contributions to governance, public service, leadership and national development.
Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who received the Women Empowerment Icon and Minister of the Year Award, dedicated the honour to Nigerian women and vulnerable groups, stressing the importance of inclusive leadership and sustained advocacy for greater participation of women in governance.
Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud, expressed appreciation after receiving the Minister of State of the Year Award, noting that the recognition would further strengthen her commitment to ongoing development efforts within the FCT Administration.
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, was recognised with the Best Governor in Infrastructure and Economic Development Award in acknowledgement of ongoing projects and development initiatives across the state. Former Governor Gabriel Suswam received the award on his behalf.
Other honourees included former First Lady Patience Jonathan, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Chris Adighije and House of Representatives member Ikenga Ugochinyere.
Music and live performances sustained the tempo of the night as guests remained in clusters across the hall, exchanging greetings and acknowledging award recipients long after the formal segment of the programme had rounded off.
