As the Igbo saying goes, “Onye kwe, chi ya ekwe” — he who agrees, his personal god agrees. The proverb came alive at the APGA victory celebration hosted by High Chief Martin Nwabueze in his palatial home in Umudioka, a man admired for his generosity, numerous empowerment schemes, and deep bond with his community.
The event yesterday drew a massive crowd of supporters, friends, and well-wishers. High Chief Nwabueze, fondly called Ichie Akubudike and Agubuzo Na Dunukofia, personally welcomed guests with warm handshakes, hugs, and radiant smiles. His expansive compound, neatly arranged and beautifully lit, was a spectacle. Lush green lawns stretched in every direction, dotted with vibrant flowers and decorative tents. At the centre stood a fountain adorned with four sculpted lions spouting water — a symbolic nod to the Agubuzo name.
A live band set the rhythm of the evening, blending traditional tunes with contemporary hits that kept guests clapping and swaying. Drummers in colourful costumes moved in step across the compound, their rhythm echoing through the air. Guests cheered, some joining in the dance, while children laughed and played around. High Chief Nwabueze, ever fit and energetic, moved with striking agility. He joined the dance floor often, clapping and spinning lightly to the beat, displaying both stamina and a genuine love for people.
Food and drinks flowed freely. Tables overflowed with pepper soup, grilled meats, and assorted local delicacies. Guests mingled easily — elders, youths, and families alike — while the celebrant moved among them with warmth and ease. His laughter and presence carried a sense of friendship rather than formality, the mark of a man deeply connected to his people.
Moments of joy punctuated the night. Groups broke into spontaneous dances, and every new song drew fresh applause. Nwabueze encouraged it all, cheering, clapping, and dancing with youthful delight that reflected his love of life and community.
Beyond the festivities, his life and work explain why he commands such affection. Through the Ichie Akubudike Foundation, he has championed youth empowerment, education, and entrepreneurship, funding scholarships, health outreaches, and local development projects. In business, his ventures span trade, real estate, and hospitality — but his focus remains on using success to uplift others, not just himself.
As the night deepened, the music and laughter continued. Many guests described the gathering as one of the most memorable they had attended, praising Ichie Akubudike’s humility and generosity. It was less a political event than a community celebration of unity and shared victory — a reflection of a leader who moves with his people, not above them.
