High Chief Martin Nwabueze, Founder of the Ichie Akubudike Foundation, was honoured with two separate awards at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, where he also pledged a new bus to support the institution’s activities. The recognition came during the maiden World Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the College of Education Academic Staff Union of the institution.
The event, which focused on Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession, drew attention to the need for strong partnerships in advancing quality education. In that spirit, the institution conferred the Philanthropic Award and the Distinguished Award on High Chief Nwabueze for his long-standing support for educational growth.
The Provost, Dr Justina Anyadiegwu, praised him for what she described as his genuine love for education. She noted that his steady intervention has consistently uplifted the college and created opportunities that will benefit present students and generations to come. She said the institution recognises his selfless commitment and views him as a dependable ally in its development drive.
Receiving the awards on behalf of High Chief Nwabueze, the Secretary of the Ichie Akubudike Foundation, Chief Sunday Anene, expressed gratitude to the college for acknowledging the founder’s contributions. He described him as a man of goodwill whose dedication to humanity and learning has positively shaped the lives of many. He announced the pledge of a brand new bus to the college, a gesture that was greeted with loud applause from staff, students, and other participants.
The news of the donation instantly lifted the mood at the ceremony as many considered it a significant boost to the institution, especially in addressing mobility needs and supporting academic programmes. The celebration ended with widespread appreciation for what many described as another clear demonstration of High Chief Nwabueze’s generosity.
