The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, commissioned the newly renovated Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Ajegunle, Lagos. The project was undertaken by the Tincan Island Port Command as part of the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) “Customs Cares” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
CGC Adeniyi led the commissioning ceremony alongside senior customs officers and stakeholders, including local dignitaries like the Olumakinwa of Apapa Kingdom and the Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA. Describing the project as a symbol of renewed hope and investment in the nation’s future, Adeniyi said, “We are happy that our intervention has provided a better learning environment for all our students… ignited a renewed hope that under President Bola Tinubu, our children can learn in a good environment and aspire to be the best.”
The “Customs Cares” initiative targets 50,000 students in 2025, distributing school items like uniforms and bags. So far, 10,000 students have benefited, with 3,000 from Lagos. The initiative also focuses on healthcare, creative industry support, potable water access, and ICT support, aligning with national development goals.
Assistant Comptroller-General Charles Orbih emphasized the importance of impactful initiatives, while Comptroller Patience Ibrahim highlighted NCS’s commitment to building stronger community relationships. The event included cultural performances by school pupils and concluded with the presentation of educational materials.
Dignitaries commended NCS for setting a strong example of public sector impact. The school’s Headmistress, Esther Ogunfuyi, expressed gratitude for NCS’s generosity and concern for education.
