The 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council Press Week began on Friday with a congregational prayer at NASFAT Mosque in Utako, Abuja. Acting Zonal Missionary Imam of NASFAT FCT, Imam Marouf Farouji, urged NUJ leadership to remain dedicated to serving humanity and upholding journalism principles.
Imam Farouji emphasized the importance of accurate information in preventing corruption and fostering ethical behavior in governance and society. He praised journalists for their role in shaping society and keeping the public informed across various media platforms.
Representing the NUJ FCT Council, Vice Chairman Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo said the prayer reflects Nigeria’s religious values. A Christian service is also scheduled for Sunday, showcasing the union’s inclusivity. Ndambabo highlighted the union’s push for better welfare for FCT journalists, including housing and protection.
Other Press Week events include a public lecture and reviving press clubs in FCT secondary schools. Ndambabo urged journalists to uphold ethical standards and combat fake news. The prayer set a solemn tone for the week’s activities, drawing journalists from Abuja and beyond.
