The Police Service Commission (PSC) has concluded deliberations on several pending disciplinary cases and appeals, assuring that officers found innocent will henceforth receive due attention to enable seamless career progression, according to a press release signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations.
The announcement followed the Commission’s ongoing Plenary Meeting held over the weekend at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, during which 24 appeals and one pending disciplinary matter were conclusively resolved.
Among the key decisions, the Commission dismissed allegations against DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazhi Dali, mni, regarding alleged falsification of enlistment dates and other irregularities in his service record. The petitions, reportedly from anonymous senior officers in Adamawa State, were described as frivolous. The Commission further ruled that a warning letter issued to DIG Dali, which did not emanate from the PSC, was null and void, and quashed the reversal of his date of birth from April 10, 1967, to April 10, 1966.
The Commission also reviewed the compulsory retirement of ACP Ejiofor Grace Obiageli, following the tragic events of September 8, 2023, at Old/Netim Division, Akamkpa, Cross Rivers State. She has been reinstated retroactively to the date of her retirement and will be properly positioned to align with her peers.
Other officers benefitting from the Commission’s decisions include ACP Muhammad Awwal Yunusa, freed from a punishment of severe reprimand; CSP Ihekandu Allwell Okwuonu, whose rank was restored; SP Clement Awoyemi, whose reinstatement date was adjusted; and ASPs Bamiselu Oluwaseun, Ahmed Monday, and Imoohi Doora, all reinstated.
Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) mni, assured that pending disciplinary matters would henceforth be treated with urgency. “Those found culpable will face appropriate consequences, while officers exonerated will be allowed to continue their career progression,” he said. DIG Argungu emphasized that the Commission would never impede the advancement of any officer found innocent of misconduct.
At the start of its 2nd Plenary Meeting on Thursday, the Commission approved the promotion of deserving officers. These include the appointment of a Deputy Inspector General of Police, the promotion of a Commissioner of Police to Assistant Inspector General, and several other rank advancements. Notable promotions include SP Omenihu Obinna, Commander of the Anti-Cult Unit in Abia State; DSP Bankole Olajide Joseph, Commander of the Bank Guard in Lagos State; and confirmations of ASPs Ede Stella Ukamaka (Police Hospital Awka, Anambra State), Omeife Bethrand Emeka (45 PMF, Force Headquarters Abuja), and Nnamdi Nwoba (O/C Surveillance, Ubakala Division, Abia State). ASP Adeyemi Adeola, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of a Lagos State Task Force, was also promoted to DSP.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness, ensuring that the careers of deserving officers continue without hindrance, according to the release.
