The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a notorious suspected cultist and political thug identified as Onyeaka Odogwu, popularly known as Red Angel, aged 29, in a sustained effort to ensure a peaceful, safe, and credible governorship election in the state.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended on 24th October 2025 at about 11:30 a.m. following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in Enugu-Ukwu. The team also recovered two pump-action guns, two English-made double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, red cloth and regalia bearing cult insignia, as well as three black caps and two red caps with inscriptions associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and linked himself to activities involving political thuggery. He later led SPACS operatives in the early hours of 26th October 2025 to their armoury at Omor, where the aforementioned exhibits were recovered.
The police spokesperson stated that all recovered items have been documented as evidence, while investigations aimed at tracking and apprehending other gang members and associates mentioned by the suspect are ongoing.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed that the Command would not allow cult groups, armed gangs, or political thugs to threaten the peace and electoral stability of the state. He further urged parents, community leaders, and youth groups to discourage young people from being lured into cult-related activities, assuring residents of enhanced security deployment across all local government areas of Anambra State.
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled to hold next week Saturday, November 8, 2025, and security agencies have intensified operations to prevent violence and ensure credible polls across the state.
