Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has presented to the State Executive Council a draft budget estimate of ₦820.49 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, representing an increase of about ₦215.96 billion from the previous year’s proposal.
According to a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, the 2026 fiscal plan, tagged “Budget of Shared Prosperity: Driving Sustainable Growth for All,” is designed to strengthen infrastructure, enhance security, and expand access to essential services across the state.
The budget presentation took place during the council meeting on November 6 at the Government House, Lokoja. Governor Ododo directed all commissioners to ensure the provision of at least three functional boreholes within their respective local government areas to support the administration’s water-supply initiative.
The council also approved restrictions on articulated vehicles passing through the Felele district during daytime hours to reduce road accidents and authorised the procurement of electricity transformers for distribution across the three senatorial districts.
Presenting the estimates, the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, said the process followed a detailed budget defence exercise to ensure transparency, realism, and alignment with the governor’s economic vision of making Kogi a productive and self-sustaining state.
The draft budget is expected to be transmitted to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage in the coming days.
