Hon Peter Aniekwe (Macpee), who represents Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, has sponsored a fresh amendment to the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act with a view to improving research output and strengthening support for farmers across the country. The proposed legislation was presented for first reading on the floor of the House of Representatives in Abuja.
According to a statement by his media team, the amendment seeks to reposition the nation’s agricultural research system so that modern techniques, scientific findings, and technological innovations can reach farmers who depend on the land for their livelihood. The statement noted that the Bill is designed to create a more effective link between research institutions and local farming communities while opening new opportunities in agribusiness and agro-processing.
For communities in Anambra East and West, where farming remains a core economic activity, the initiative is expected to boost productivity and enhance rural development. According to the statement, the amendment will help drive job creation for young people interested in modern agribusiness and strengthen food security across the country.
Hon Aniekwe explained that farmers need tools, knowledge, and institutional support to compete in today’s agricultural environment, adding that the Bill reflects his commitment to practical representation that delivers real benefits to the Omabala region and beyond.
