President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced automatic employment for the two sons of his police rider, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hussani Ibrahim, who died in a fatal accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
Akpabio made the announcement on Tuesday on the floor of the Senate while informing his colleagues of the tragic loss. He disclosed that the late officer, who served as his official rider, had since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
In an emotional address to the chamber, the Senate President paid tribute to the late DSP Ibrahim, describing him as a disciplined officer who understood the dignity of labour and the essence of service. He noted that the officer devoted his life to duty and paid the ultimate price in the course of service, adding that his death should be seen as one that bears testimony to a life of commitment and sacrifice.
Akpabio extended condolences to the bereaved family, the Inspector General of Police, and the entire Nigeria Police Force, describing the deceased as a courageous, fearless and dedicated officer. He prayed for divine comfort and strength for the family and the police institution to bear the loss.
The Senate President’s pledge of automatic employment for the deceased officer’s two sons was presented as a personal gesture of support aimed at preserving the legacy of service left behind by the late DSP Ibrahim.
In a related development, the Senate also paid tribute to Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur, who recently passed away after 25 years of service as a driver to the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Jibrin Isah Echocho. Lawmakers observed a minute of silence in honour of both deceased individuals and offered prayers for the repose of their souls.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hussani Ibrahim was attached to the office of the Senate President as a police rider, while Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur served for over two decades in the National Assembly under the employ of the Kogi East senator.
