The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has described the discovery of the lifeless bodies of twin infants in a drainage channel at Okpoko as a disturbing case of man’s inhumanity to man and a gross violation of the sanctity of human life.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said CP Orutugu commended operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters for their swift response and professional conduct which led to the arrest of the biological parents of the deceased infants shortly after the incident was reported.
The statement further indicated that operatives, in the early hours of 21st June 2026, received information on the discovery of two lifeless infant twins abandoned in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko. They promptly moved to the scene, secured the area, and commenced preliminary investigations.
It further stated that actionable leads from the initial investigation led to the identification and arrest of the biological parents of the infants, who are currently in police custody assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
CP Orutugu, according to the statement, condemned the act in strong terms, stressing that every child is entitled to protection, care, and the right to life, and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law.
The Command added that investigation into the matter is ongoing and further developments will be communicated as necessary.
