Ministry of Defence, National Defence College Strengthen Strategic Defence Collaboration

The Ministry of Defence and the National Defence College have moved to deepen strategic collaboration as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture and align the country’s military institutions with contemporary security realities.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd) OFR, met with the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, in Abuja on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, during a high-level engagement focused on institutional cooperation and strategic development.
The meeting centred on enhancing collaboration in capacity building, defence policy development, strategic research, and the advancement of professional military education, with emphasis on preparing Nigeria’s armed forces to respond effectively to evolving national and regional security challenges.
Both leaders underscored the importance of sustained cooperation between the Ministry and the College in nurturing strategic thought leadership, strengthening civil-military relations, and reinforcing Nigeria’s overall defence preparedness.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Defence to modernise military institutions and ensure that strategic training and policy formulation remain responsive to emerging security dynamics within the country and across the sub-region.
The National Defence College serves as Nigeria’s apex military training institution, responsible for grooming senior military officers and top-level public sector leaders in strategic and defence studies, while the Ministry of Defence provides policy direction and oversight for the nation’s defence and security framework.
